This morning Jane and I walked south for hours down the shore of Lake Champlain and back up Pine St., though the 90-plus heat kept us to a moderate pace. The most interesting photo turned out to be this view across the lake (and a tour boat's wake) to hills in New York - looks cool, doesn't it?
This evening we had a wonderful dinner in the sidewalk cafe of Leunig's Bistro on Church St. We waited to walk up there until the sun was low and then had dessert at Ben & Jerry's. And still we're sitting here in front of a fan trying to cool off.
My trusty (when I use it right) GPS made me very happy this afternoon when it told me I could save more than an hour over the Mapquest route by going to Chicago through Ontario and Michigan instead of the same I-90 route through New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio that I've followed many times before. So tomorrow morning I head north to take a Lake Champlain ferry and then cross the border from Massena, NY, to Cornwall, ON. It's mostly not new ground either but I plan to do as many detours and photo stops as time permits before my Friday lunch date in Munster, IN.
