This is the North?

This will be brief because I'm in the middle of a heat wave - in Burlington, VT. I'll leave out my misadventures with my GPS - lesson learned, I'll do it right next time. Today's high points were:

1. Breakfast with Mary, my sister-in-law, at a bakery cafe in Amherst.

2. A visit to the King Arthur Flour store in Norwich, VT. I've used tons of the stuff in years of bread baking and the store was a load of fun, but all I ended up buying was a replacement for my flat wooden bread-mixing spoon (looks slender, we'll see how it stands up) and two gorgeous loaves of fresh bread for Jane. Here's the store entrance.

3. A walk in sweltering Burlington with my hostess and friend, Rachel's stepmother Jane. We did the Church Street Market (here's one view of it) and a short stretch of the Lake Champlain waterfront, which will probably turn up again in tomorrow's post.

That's all I can stand to do tonight. Too darn hot!
